JL Civi (aka JLC) writes genre-blurring stories anchored by warm human relationships with equal parts wry humor and heartbreaking urgency. Music and time travel turn up frequently in his work — often in the same stories — even when he starts off with something else in mind. His fourth wall breaking narrators are an acquired taste using a unique voice described as quietly eerie, slightly ridiculous, relatably self-aware, and weirdly wise. TIMELY PERSUASION follows a music critic traveling through time, while standalone sequel LOCAL BOY DONE GONE studies the impact of time travel manipulation on a 1970s folk singer. L EXTREME is a surrealist song-by-song novelization of the album A Love Extreme by musician Benji Hughes. JLC's DUTY CALLS series of shorts follows 12 jurors in flashback adventures before they were selected to serve. Originally from New England, JLC currently lives in Texas with his wife and dogs.
