Hannah D. State is an award-winning Canadian author. She graduated from McGill University with a BA and earned her MPL from Queen's University. Hannah is a proud member of the Writers' Union of Canada and the Writers' Federation of New Brunswick. Hannah's first novel, Journey to the Hopewell Star, was named "A Must-Have New Brunswick Book of 2020" by Atlantic Books Today and received a Gold Medal in the 2021 Readers' Favorite International Book Awards in the "Young Adult - Sci-Fi" category. Her second novel, Journey to the Dark Galaxy, was a finalist in the 2024 Whistler Independent Book Awards and was a finalist for the 2025 Ann Connor Brimer Award for Atlantic Canadian Children's Literature.

Hannah is bothered by inequality, violence, greed, complacency, snakes, entering a dark room, and not getting enough sleep. She enjoys writing about strong-willed characters who don’t fit the norm and who overcome great obstacles with perseverance, self-discovery, and help from others. Sometimes Hannah can’t keep up with her characters’ ideas and plans, so she takes breaks, drinks coffee, does yoga and tai chi, and takes nature walks to calm her mind and really listen. You can find out more about Hannah on Facebook and Instagram.
