About the Author

Håkon Harðradr is a British Army combat veteran, independent author, husband, father, devout Vitki and animist shaman. Alongside Mark Thorson, he is a co-founder of AesirVanirtrú—a living spiritual path honouring the Æsir, the Vanir, the ancestors, the spirits of the land and the sacred bonds connecting humanity with the natural world.

His faith is founded upon honour, courage, loyalty, reciprocity, ancestral remembrance and respect for the seen and unseen forces dwelling throughout creation. These principles run like threads of fate through his life and writing, shaping stories in which oaths possess weight, the dead are remembered and even the gods must face the consequences of their choices.

Håkon’s fiction is forged from military experience, history, mythology and humanity’s enduring struggle between duty and desire, darkness and light.

Having served in the British Army and deployed on operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and other global theatres, Håkon brings a veteran’s understanding of loyalty, sacrifice, brotherhood, fear and survival to every story he writes. His novels do not portray war as a distant spectacle or uncomplicated adventure. Instead, they explore the men forced to endure it: the burdens they carry, the brothers they lose, the promises they refuse to break and the scars that remain long after the battlefield has fallen silent.

He is the creator of The War for the Adamite Throne, an expansive shared universe spanning thousands of years of imagined history. From ancient kingdoms, shield walls and medieval crusades to industrial revolutions, haunted frontiers, distant worlds and galaxy-spanning wars, every story forms part of one immense chronological tapestry. Kingdoms rise and fall, faiths divide, empires crumble and countless generations shed blood in the struggle for the legendary Adamite Throne.

Rather than following a single chosen hero, the series chronicles entire ages, bloodlines, military orders and forgotten civilisations. Readers may march beside the knightly kingdoms of Anglion, brave the frozen hosts of Norskheimr, stand within the shield walls of Glenmoria, survive the haunted wastes of the Duskland Republic or fight alongside the armoured crusaders of humanity’s distant future.

Every book adds another surviving fragment to a living history in which today’s warrior may become tomorrow’s legend, an oath may endure beyond the death of the one who swore it and yesterday’s forgotten sin may ignite the next great war. Throughout that history, echoes of Norse mythology and AesirVanirtrú can be found in the reverence shown to gods and ancestors, the sanctity of hospitality, the binding power of sworn words and the conviction that courage is not the absence of fear, but the will to stand when fear commands a person to flee.

Blending grimdark fantasy, military science fiction, historical adventure, supernatural horror, mythology and political intrigue, Håkon’s work explores courage, honour, redemption, sacrifice and the price of remaining true to one’s convictions when the world seems determined to tear them apart. His characters are rarely untouched heroes. They are wounded men, oath-bound warriors, kings, outcasts, soldiers and survivors who must decide what parts of themselves they are willing to sacrifice—and what they will defend until their final breath.

Above all else, however, Håkon’s greatest achievement is not found upon the printed page, but within his home and family.

His deepest gratitude belongs to his beloved wife, Annabelle Harðradr, whose unwavering belief, encouragement and determination transformed what once seemed an impossible dream into reality. Without her constant support, patience and refusal to allow him to surrender, he would never have become an author. Every novel bearing his name stands as much as a testament to her faith in him as it does to his own imagination. She is, and always will be, the true inspiration behind this journey.

To all his children, Håkon offers his enduring gratitude for giving his life its greatest purpose and for reminding him every day why stories of courage, hope, loyalty and perseverance continue to matter.

To Max, he gives particular thanks for granting him the extraordinary privilege of becoming a father all over again. It is a gift beyond measure and one he will cherish for the rest of his life.

Håkon was medically discharged from the British Army in 2012. In the difficult years that followed, writing became both a source of purpose and a means of carrying on. He committed himself to writing every day, steadily transforming memory, imagination, hardship and lived experience into new characters, worlds and histories. The many books he has published are the result of that daily discipline and of his refusal to allow the ending of his military career to become the ending of his story.

Most of Håkon’s novels are deliberately written as focused, fast-moving chronicles averaging approximately twenty chapters. Each is intended to capture one campaign, conflict, legend or defining moment within the wider history of the Adamite Throne, while remaining accessible to readers who appreciate direct storytelling and books that do not become unnecessarily drawn out.

Eventually, Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing offered Håkon the opportunity to place these stories before readers without the prohibitive financial obligations and restrictive barriers traditionally associated with publication. Through independent publishing, he found the freedom to build his universe according to his own vision and to share the stories he had spent years creating.

When he is not raising new kingdoms, waging fictional wars or expanding the ever-growing history of The War for the Adamite Throne, Håkon continues to write from his home in the United Kingdom—honouring the past, recording the imagined deeds of those who came before and always searching for the next story worthy of remembrance.
