I'm Gold Shibi, and Tales from Yummville, my debut children's book series, was born at my dinner table. As a mother and an aunt, I spend a lot of time watching my kids, nieces, and nephews experience food. The questions they ask. The faces they make. The way they light up when something surprises them. What I've noticed, over and over, is this: when children feel like they're in charge, they are more willing to try new things, especially when they think other kids are doing the same. One evening, my son and my niece started debating why strawberries tasted so different from lemonade. They turned to me and asked why. And instead of giving a quick answer, I started to wonder. What if that question was the beginning of an adventure they were in charge of? What if food science was a world they could actually explore? With a little imagination and a lot of inspiration from my little humans, Tales from Yummville was born. I wrote the Tales from Yummville series for the children in my life. And I hope it finds its way to the children in yours.
