Convidada pelo Programa do Jô devido ao sucesso da saga Não Pare! com o público juvenil, Pepper só tem uma explicação para a maneira como a experiência literária entrou em sua vida: mágica! "Você já dormiu demais. Está na hora de começar a sonhar." Ser apaixonada por leitura não ia de encontro à minha origem. Vinda de uma família humilde, eu não tive acesso a livros de ficção no decorrer de minha infância. Eles eram caros e meus pais esforçavam-se por comprar os estritamente necessários (e chatos!), tais como: matemática, física, química, etc. Tive que deixar minha paixão pela leitura de lado e começar a trabalhar desde cedo. O tempo se esvaía, como água entre os dedos, e não me sobravam minutos para os sonhos. Porém, a mesma vida que me fez mudar de direção, deu uma guinada em sua trajetória e me colocou face a face com meu antigo e fulminante amor: os Livros de Ficção, mais especificamente, os livros infanto-juvenis. Wokaholic assumida, vi meu mundo ficar de cabeça para baixo quando meu médico me disse que estava grávida, mas que era uma gravidez de risco e que teria que ficar de repouso durante os nove meses, caso realmente quisesse segurar o bebê em meus braços. De início, achei o máximo ficar algumas semanas sem fazer nada, só comendo besteiras e vendo todos os programas da televisão ( que nuca tive a oportunidade de assistir!). Mas, os dias foram passando e, com eles, a minha paciência. Após um mês deitada, comecei a ficar nervosa e estava a um passo da depressão quando meu marido (e nas horas vagas, meu super herói) entrou em ação. Vou me recordar até os últimos dias de minha vida quando ele chegou em casa carregando um presente envolto num lindo embrulho e disse com um sorriso travesso nos lábios: "Você já dormiu demais. Está na hora de começar a sonhar." Abri o pacote e lá estava o meu grande amor piscando para mim: um livro de ficção. E era infanto -juvenil! Bom, dali em diante, devorei quantidades absurdas deles. Não sei se vale a pena dizer, mas eu li quase 100 livros em menos de um ano. Loucura, não? Mas é a pura verdade. O resto são detalhes. E aqui estou eu... Now it's time to start dreaming." My passion for literature has always seemed out of synch with my origins. Coming from a humble family, I didn't have access to fiction books during my childhood. They were expensive, and my parents struggled to buy even those that were strictly necessary (and boring!): math, physics, chemistry, etc. At an early age, I had to set aside my passion for reading to begin working. Time slipped away like water through my fingers, and there were few moments left for dreaming. None. However, the same life that had made me change paths also took a turn and put me back in touch with my old and ardent love: fiction, or more specifically, young adult literature. As a confessed workaholic, I felt my world turn upside down when my doctor told me I was pregnant and that it was a high-risk pregnancy. I would have to stay in bed for the whole nine months if I hoped to hold the baby in my arms. Initially, I thought it was great to have a few weeks off, doing nothing, eating junk food and watching television (which I had never had the chance to do!). However, as the days went by, my patience went with them. After staying in bed for a month, I was on the brink of depression when my husband (in his spare time my superhero) burst onto the scene. I'll never forget, as long as I live, the moment he came home with a beautiful gift in his hands and, with a mischievous smile on his lips, said, "You've slept enough. Now it's time to start dreaming." I opened the package and there it was, my great love winking at me: a young adult fiction book! From that day on I devoured absurd quantities of them. I'm not sure whether it's worth mentioning, but I read one hundred books in less than a year. Crazy, isn't it? But it's the honest truth. The rest is history. And here I am. . . .
