Empar Fernández Gómez nació en Barcelona en 1962; alterna la docencia con la escritura, tanto de ficción como de no ficción. Con su primera novela, "Horacio en la memoria" obtiene el XXV Premio Cáceres 2000. En 2004 comienza su colaboración literaria con Pablo Bonell Goytisolo y publican "Cienfuegos, 17 agosto" adentrándose en el mundo de la novela de intriga; juntos crean al inspector Santiago Escalona, protagonista de las tres novelas siguientes que escriben juntos: "Las cosas de la muerte", "Mala sangre" y "Un mal día para morir". Resulta finalista del IX Premio Unicaja de Novela Fernando Quiñones con "El loco de las muñecas", la historia de un mendigo que es desgranada a partir de su muerte. En 2008 publica "Hijos de la derrota", una novela que parte del fin de la guerra civil para contar cómo afecta a la vida de tres niños la manera en que sus padres se enfrentan al comienzo de la dictadura. Consigue el Premio Rejadorada de Novela Breve por "La cicatriz" en 2009 y al año siguiente publica "Mentiras capitales", una historia ambientada en la posguerra, en la que nos adentraremos en la vida de unos personajes que, a bordo de un barco, huyen a Veracruz de sus vidas. Colabora ocasionalmente en prensa, como columnista, y como guionista en la producción de documentales históricos.
