Emily Hunt Kivel is an author whose short fiction has appeared in the Paris Review, BOMB, American Short Fiction, and New England Review, among others. Her 2023 short story, "The Sea Captain," was a finalist for the National Magazine Award. She currently serves as the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Scholar in Residence at the University of Houston, where she writes and instructs on fiction and film. She received American Short Fiction's Debut Star award for her debut novel, DWELLING, which was published in 2025 with Farrar, Straus and Giroux. She was born in San Francisco and now lives in Texas.
