E S Culley. E S Culley is a novelist, award-winning artist and illustrator from the Black Country in England. She draws inspiration for her novels from British and Irish history, especially the Plantagenet and Tudor eras. She also has a passion for writing and illustrating children’s books. Having spent many years working with individuals who have special educational needs and mental health challenges, she delights in storytelling and bringing her weird and whacky characters to life with the tip of a pen. A late onset of deafness prompted her to learn British Sign Language (BSL) at Walsall College night school classes where she reached level 3. Spending over a decade living abroad in Cyprus, Germany and USA, E S Culley has travelled extensively throughout her life. She has also finally accepted her neurodiversity and lives with her black-headed caique parrot, Mickin, who appears in some of her books. These days, her father is passing on endless gardening skills which she never dreamed of learning! She inherited her clan’s passion for history and explores places of historical interest whenever she’s not writing. Intrigued by real life characters who lived in eras past, E S Culley benefits from researching her favourites. Since childhood she has held a fascination for Grainne Mhaol (Grace O’Malley), Mary, Queen of Scots, Anne Boleyn, William Wallace and many more fascinating folk. Over 58 years of her full and adventurous life, she has gained inspiration from the sea, moon, nature, animals and the works of writers and artists including JRR Tolkien, Agatha Christie, Robert Louis Stevenson, Daphne du Maurier, James Herbert, Salvador Dali, Walt Disney and countless others.
