Dr. William Belan is happiest when he is professionally active as a writer, teacher, conductor, and producer. He is even happier in his role of husband and father to three children (one son and two daughters). He has been trained closely by true mentors including: Roger Wagner, Donn Weiss, Dennis Shrock, Esther Andreas, Peter Drucker, and Donald Brinegar, and Robert Fowells. As a professor he was a Fulbright Scholar to Costa Rica, and as a leader of research for ACDA he designed a collaborative website with the Library of Congress for American Choral Music. As a teacher he is professor emeritus of choral studies at California State University, Los Angeles. Dr. Belan is author of three books of choral research (Festschrift for Roger Wagner, English Madrigal, and Latin American Rhythm/ 2nd edition) and more than 100 published octavos in the area of Latin American choral music. His latest book is My Stroke: A Pathway to Recovery and Discovery, the research of the brain and neurology as applied to his own episode with stroke. He continues to teach courses as adjunct professor at Chaffey College.
