Dr W. Sumner Davis is a Maine author, retired researcher, educator, and artist whose books bring ancient wisdom into the modern world.

The author of more than fifty works, Davis is best known for contemporary retellings of mythology, biblical narratives, and timeless archetypal stories. Drawing upon Jungian psychology, philosophy, theology, history, and comparative mythology, he explores grief, resilience, identity, faith, ambition, redemption, and the forces that shape human behaviour.

His works include modern interpretations of The Book of Job, The Odyssey, The Fisher King, Gilgamesh, Narcissus, and Prometheus, along with short fiction, poetry, history, and cultural commentary.

Many of his stories are set along the rugged Maine coast, where the sea, fog, forests, and isolated communities reflect the inner struggles of his characters.

Through Forester Books, Davis creates thoughtful and accessible books for readers who believe that humanity’s oldest stories still have something important to teach us.
