K. Scott Burnham, DO grew up in Mesa, Arizona, where four years on the varsity tennis team taught him something about showing up consistently — a lesson that followed him into medicine. A fascination with anatomy and body mechanics drew him toward science, and eventually into emergency medicine, where he spent 23 years on the front lines of mental health crisis care.
He knew how to stabilize someone in the first hour. What came after the ER doors closed — the maze of appointments, the emotional wreckage, the absence of any real roadmap — was a problem he watched the system repeatedly fail to solve.
Then he lived it himself. Depression dismantled his life quietly, then completely, and he had to learn recovery the hard way: as a patient, not a physician.
That experience is why LIFELINE exists.
He is the father of four grown children he is immensely proud of — a cardiology fellow, a tech manager, a hair stylist, and a future IT data analyst. He lives in Ohio with his wife, Darlene.
