Doug Swinford is a retired utility worker from St. Joseph, Illinois. Residing near the vibrant University of Illinois his whole life, he gained valuable life experience serving the diverse college town and nearby communities. After many years of night courses, Doug received an Associate Degree from Parkland College. Swinford’s first writing efforts were as sportswriter for the Sidney Times while he was in grade school. After his first liver transplant in 1991, his article, “The Gift That Keeps On Giving,” appeared in the Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette. He intended to write about his medical journey then, but life stayed busy with three daughters to raise. Nowadays, if he’s not visiting grandkids, you can find him and his wife line dancing and ballroom dancing at local venues as he tries to perfect new moves with only his wife’s expressions as a measure of how he is doing. Word is he needs a lot of practice on the Tango!
