The first word I learned to spell was BOP. Popeye was often bopping some big bad guy who deserved to be bopped. When I went to school and learned to read more words, I stopped pestering Dad to read the newspaper comics for me. When I took a mail order cartooning course, The Landon School of cartooning, I started drawing my own comics. After graduating from the University of Iowa, I went to work for Hallmark Cards writing and drawing cartoon greeting cards. Later went to American Greetings and drew Hi Brows cards. I retired in 1990 and began drawing Wally's Woods comic strip. It was published in The Trigg Times for a year, and in americangreetings.com for two years. But I couldn't sell it to any newspaper syndicates. Some of Wally's Woods stories are now available from Star Bright Books and as ebooks. Spook the Halloween Cat, City Birds, and Spook Goes to a Halloween Party. Spook the Magic Kitten is a long version of Spook the Halloween Cat. There are three sequels to the kitten book that are available as Amazon ebooks. Spook Helps Hexabell Find a Halloween Cat, Hexabell and Crabby in Another Universe, and Hexabell's Fantabulous Halloween Party. Also available on Amazon is my book titled The Lucky Generation: 1930 to 2030...If We Are Lucky. A lot of funny short stories that is sort of an autobiography. Now as my time is growing short, I am publishing Wally's Woods comic stories as ebooks. Cuyahoga River Adventures is the first. There will be a series of about 40 Wally's Woods ebooks with comic stories about wildlife and outdoor recreation. Also a series of 17 cartoon ebooks titled OUTDOORS. If you haven't learned to read yet, pester Mom or Dad to read them to you. Wally and his dog named Beaver don't BOP anyone. They just have fun hiking, canoeing, skiing, backpacking and meeting critters in the woods. `Dean Norman
