After studying business administration at the University of Applied Sciences in Kempten and Fulda, Christian Buder began studying philosophy at the University of Marburg in 1996. Fascinated by the writings of the French philosopher Jacques Derrida, he transferred to the University of Paris VIII after completing his undergraduate studies. He finished his philosophy degree with a dissertation on the death penalty. Following a stay in Colombia, Marseille, and Aix-en-Provence, he earned his doctorate from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris. His dissertation focused on Hegel's concept of time. In 2006, Christian Buder was a research fellow at the University of Chicago, studying with the American philosopher Robert Pippin. Christian Buder lives and works alternately in the Allgäu region of Germany and in Brittany. He is married and has two children.
