For more than thirty years, Charles Rivers has been asking a question that changed the direction of his life: Why do so many intelligent, caring people end up living lives they never intended to live?

What began as a passion for helping couples build stronger relationships gradually grew into something much larger. After listening to thousands of people share their struggles, Rivers noticed that many of their problems had surprisingly little to do with the issue that first brought them into his office. Whether they came seeking help for marriage, anger, anxiety, communication, finances, or emotional pain, they often shared the same underlying struggle. Somewhere along the way, they had lost touch with the person they once were.

That lifelong search led Rivers beyond traditional relationship counseling into the study of psychology, neuroscience, human behavior, financial decision-making, communication, consumer culture, and the hidden influences that shape the choices we make every day. His work eventually led to the development of the Human Interpersonal Relational Velocity Theory, a framework that views anger not as a character flaw to suppress, but as emotional friction that can be understood, managed, and ultimately transformed.

Through private counseling, public seminars, radio broadcasts, and his writing, Rivers has spent decades translating complex psychological principles into practical wisdom that ordinary people can apply to everyday life. His books blend humor, storytelling, neuroscience, and memorable metaphors to help readers better understand themselves, strengthen their relationships, and rediscover the authentic person they were before fear, expectations, and social conditioning began shaping their lives.
