Charles Jennings grew up in London and was educated there, and at St. John's College, Oxford, where he read English. He is a writer and journalist whose books range from the best-selling travelogue Up North, to the state-of-the-union satire Faintheart (longlisted for the Wodehouse Prize), to the warts-and-all history of Formula One, Burning Rubber (a book of the week for The Independent), to the critically-acclaimed Them and Us - a study of the American invasion of Edwardian high society, and a Radio 4 Book of the Week. He has also appeared in the Daily Telegraph, Sunday Times, Observer - for which he was a TV critic - Financial Times, Independent, GQ, Esquire and Vanity Fair; and has been a columnist for the Guardian and Times newspapers. In between, he has written drama for radio, TV and the stage; presented The Property Show for Thames Televison; been a talking head for the Smithsonian Channel; and co-founded a wine blog - whose greatest moments have been published in book form: Sediment. This recently won the John Avery Award. He is also a former visiting Fellow at Goldsmiths College, University of London. Married, with two sons, he (still) lives in London.
