Believe it or not, I began my fiction career in third grade, by telling my class that a little sister I never had died of a black widow bite. In my teen years, I kept writing, always some version of a girl whose mother made her wash the dishes and sweep floors, though I never finished a single one. For years, painting was my creative outlet; it never occurred to me I could write a real book. Then, at forty, a vivid dream sent me digging out a portable typewriter, and began my first novel.

My second completed book, Tender Touch, won first place in a writing contest in 1990 and was a Golden Heart Finalist the following year. That win brought me an agent and a contract with Kensington, who published five of my western historical romance novels. Forever Mine went on to earn a Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice Award nomination, and other books of mine have placed or won in contests since.

My love for the Old West started early, with my dad reading Zane Grey novels to me as a child. I've always felt I was born in the wrong era and place; even though, as it turns out, I was actually born in the right place, Colorado Springs, before my family moved to LA when I was nine months old.
