Cedric is Professor of Sociology and Director of the Labor Center at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. His areas of expertise are labor, race, political sociology, comparative historical sociology, and social theory. He is the author and editor of five books, including Crisis! When Political Parties Lose the Consent to Rule (Stanford University Press, 2019). In another life, he was by turns an organizer, a local union president, and a rank-and-file activist in the U.S. labor movement.
