My writing life has taken many twists and turns, from freelance human interest and travel articles to book-length nonfiction and fiction. My first book was Sins of Omission: The Jewish Community's Reaction to Domestic Violence that I wrote while a post-doc at Northeastern University's Brudnick Center on Violence and Conflict. While still at Northeastern and working on the first draft of book about violent extremists, I soon realized that real-life violence was too stressful, so I started writing fiction. Ironically, I still write about crime, but now there’s no violence on the page—and there’s always justice at the end. Because I’ve always loved both reading mysteries and solving puzzles, and because mysteries are just giant intellectual puzzles, that genre is where I decided to build my imaginary worlds. I hope you will take the time to explore them! And because for almost twenty years I’ve also been writing for the media about food history, my mysteries include many references to food and recipes!
