Driven by love, faith, and a determination to preserve an extraordinary legacy, Betty J. Garris courageously undertook the task of writing the life story of her late husband, Martin P. Garris. Through these pages, she shares the remarkable journey of a man who served his country, stood against racism and segregation during a turbulent era in American history, faithfully served his community as a police officer, and ultimately discovered the transforming power of Jesus Christ.

A retired professional who dedicated many years of service to the University of North Florida, Betty has long valued family, education, and community. She is the proud mother of three grown children and is blessed with grandchildren and great-grandchildren who continue to enrich her life.

Born in Jacksonville, Florida, where she still resides today, she has witnessed firsthand the changes that have shaped her city and nation. By writing this biography, she fulfills a promise of love and remembrance, ensuring that Martin's courage, faith, and unwavering commitment to justice will continue to inspire generations to come.

Through Born to Hate, Destined to Love, she invites readers into a powerful true story of adversity, redemption, service, and hope, a story that proves one life, surrendered to God, can make an enduring difference.
