I'm passionate about Vermont -- its people, communities, landscape, history. And I write "young adult" novels that root in all of those: THE LONG SHADOW, my Spur-award-winning 2018 title, sends three teenage girls on an adventure that tests abolitionist efforts in 1850 Vermont. It's Book 1 in the Winds of Freedom series, with Book 2, THIS ARDENT FLAME, released in 2021. Book 3 will be KINDRED HEARTS! Earlier titles, COLD MIDNIGHT (set in 1921; climbing the town's roofs at night), THE SECRET ROOM (teens confront their town about its links to the 1800s), and THE DARKNESS UNDER THE WATER (set in 1930 with the Vermont Eugenics Project), all explore how teens see and change their world.
