Who is Benjamin Errett and what gives him the unmitigated audacity to tell me (of all people) how to be interesting and/or how to understand my tastes?! Great questions! Sure, I'm a super interesting and ultra tasteful guy, but neither Elements of Taste nor Elements of Wit are about that. The Elements series is about making sense of what makes good things good, and how to make everything better. In Elements of Wit, I examine what makes the plays of Tom Stoppard, the poetry of Patricia Lockwood, the music of Kanye West, the essays of Christopher Hitchens and the best of Twitter so addictive? I'm pretty sure it's WIT -- which I define as spontaneous creativity -- and I'm also pretty sure we can all learn something from the lives of the Great Wits. In Elements of Taste, I develop a new way of looking at all of culture with the goal of helping you understand why you love what you love, and how to find more of it. It connects physical taste to cultural taste to break down all of entertainment -- everyone from W.H. Auden to Diana Vreeland to John Hodgman to Katy Perry -- into their sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and umami components. Got questions? I'm on Twitter @benjaminerrett.
