B. Jeffrey Madoff mowed lawns, shoveled snow, had a paper route, sold housewares door to door for the Fuller Brush Company, and worked as a greens-keeper, a buyer for a fashion store, and a tombstone setter.

He graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin, earning degrees in psychology and philosophy, two disciplines that guaranteed he wouldn't get a high paying job.

After college, despite his total lack of qualifications, Madoff started his first business, a clothing company, and became a fashion designer. He was recognized as one of the top 10 young designers in the United States. There were only 8 young designers, so the award wasn't as impressive as it sounds.

Continuing what has become his theme, having no qualifications, Madoff switched careers to film and video production. He directed award-winning documentaries, commercials, and web content for clients around the world, including Ralph Lauren, Harvard, Tiffany & Co., and Radio City Music Hall.

Madoff was an Adjunct Professor at Parsons School of Design for sixteen years, teaching a course he conceived called Creative Careers: Making a Living With Your Ideas. That led to him writing a bestselling book of the same name.

Madoff's newest book, Casting Not Hiring, co-authored with Dan Sullivan, founder of Strategic Coach, treats a business like a theater production, where every team member is cast for their personality and unique abilities. It publishes through Hay House in November 2026.

Madoff has been a keynote speaker at the Wharton School, and the Tsai Center for Innovative Thinking at Yale University, and Google Next, on the topics of entrepreneurship, creating a brand, storytelling, and creativity.

Most recently, Madoff tackled his largest project: writing and producing a musical. "Mr. Personality: The Lloyd Price Musical," about Rock & Roll Hall of Fame legend Lloyd Price, had its world premiere at People's Light Theater outside Philadelphia in 2022, where it received rave reviews. It went on to a successful run at Chicago's Studebaker Theater and two sold-out concerts at Queen Elizabeth Hall at London's Southbank Centre in October 2025. Mr. Personality: The Lloyd Price Musical will be presented to an audience of theater owners, producers, and investors in January of 2027, with a Broadway run as the goal.

Madoff is the author of the forthcoming Casting Not Hiring (Hay House, November 2026) and the bestselling Creative Careers: Making a Living With Your Ideas.
