Anton Panarin grew up in a small town with a population of barely 15,000. The local construction sites became his childhood playgrounds; an empty lot just next to the federal highway was his friends’ soccer pitch. Oh, the adrenaline rush whenever his clumsy kicks sent the football flying into the busy traffic! Oh, the joy and excitement whenever he had to dive between the cars’ wheels in order to retrieve the football! They couldn’t just abandon it, could they? – they only had one football for the entire street. When he grew up a bit, he was presented with the choice of either studying accounting or becoming a mechanic. Seeing as Anton had never been a hands-on type, he chose the former, only to regret it deeply by the end of the first semester. Selecting a field entirely dependent on number crunching might not have been such a good idea for a book-loving intellectual like himself. Whatever the case, Anton managed to graduate with half-decent grades, only to be faced with a new dilemma: should he find a job or maybe get a college degree? The latter was a no-brainer – after all, what’s life without a spell in college? Predictably, Anton wasn’t one to learn from experience, as he joined an IT faculty to further drown himself in numbers. He’d always been one for self-flagellation, you see. Still, once again he graduated with bearable grades, and even managed to pass the finals with flying colors. When he finally embarked on a professional career, Anton never stopped experimenting. He tried his hand at everything that came his way: from a household appliances sales rep to a paintball club co-owner and from a transactional products chief bank inspector to assistant system administrator for the local tax office. He attempted to run his own construction subcontracting business, sold all kinds of stuff from consumer electronics to beef jerky - but in the end, he refused to learn his lesson and walked back into the IT trap where he worked for the next 13 years, eventually making it to the post of division manager. He was in charge of 46 workers – a big boss! But you know what? He didn’t like it. He just kept looking for ways to scratch his artistic itch. That’s how he met Alexey Kovtunov who gave the aspiring writer the kick in the butt he so badly needed, propelling him to authorhood. Finally Anton discovered an occupation he truly loved – and with that, he finally embraced his identity. He quit his job and has been writing ever since, making himself a name as an author of RealRPG and “boyar anime” – the subgenre of portal fantasy set in alternate-history Slavic cultures.
