Andy Milne is an England superfan whose love affair with football - and the World Cup in particular - has taken him across the globe for more than 40 years and nine tournaments. Known to many as “That World Cup Guy”, Andy went viral during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where his distinctive look, boundless enthusiasm and ever-present replica World Cup, Sophie the Trophy, made him a familiar face on TV screens and in the press. A schoolteacher throughout his working life, Andy made the bold decision to take early retirement so he could attend the Qatar World Cup - quite literally giving up his job to follow the game he loves. Likeable, approachable and fuelled by an infectious passion for football, he has since become a regular feature on outlets such as the BBC, Sky Sports and Talk Sport, always offering a fan’s-eye view of football’s greatest tournament. When he’s not following England, Andy splits his time between Northwich, Cheshire, where he lives with his partner Achla, and the tropical island of Koh Tao in Thailand. There, he runs an adventure company, Treasure Island Challenge, a unique experience that blends travel, storytelling and a touch of magic, drawing on Andy’s background as a conjurer. Beyond football, Andy has deliberately built a life shaped by curiosity, challenge and adventure. He has led 27 overseas expeditions to places including the Galápagos Islands, the Amazon rainforest, the Sinai Desert and remote islands off Sulawesi. He once served as a bodyguard for Hollywood legend Sophia Loren, won a BBC photographic award presented at the Royal Albert Hall, and was a member of the Magic Circle, winning the Order of the Magi Close-Up Magic competition. Each experience has added another layer to his love of people, places and the stories they share. Andy still enjoys playing football, along with golf, pool, scuba diving, ocean swimming and hiking. Above all, he loves the way sport and travel bring people together - a spirit that runs through both his life and his writing. That World Cup Guy is his first book.
