Alexandra Scherer was born in 1962 in Wangen im Allgäu, a small medieval town in southern Germany. In 1985 she married her Polynesian husband and moved to his home — Funafuti, Tuvalu. There, out of sheer boredom, she read her way through an entire library: Georgette Heyer, Terry Pratchett, Mills & Boon, Jane Austen, Thackeray, and a 1942 publication on pig farming in England. Her humour and literary tastes have been decidedly British ever since. Back in southern Germany, she writes crime fiction rooted in the region she knows best: the Kathy O'Banion Mystery series, following a young American woman starting over in Wangen, and the cosy crime series featuring Magdalena Sonnbichler, a naturopath assisting the local police in the Allgäu. She translates her own work into English.
