Abbas Amanat is a professor of History and International Studies at Yale University. He is a graduate of Tehran University and Oxford University and author of a number of books and articles on Iran and the Middle East with emphasis on culture and religion as well as political trends. His most recent book is Apocalyptic Islam and Iranian Shi'ism (London and New York, IB Tauris, 2009)and his forthcoming book, Making of Modern Iran: Authority, Memory and Nationhood (1501-2005), will be published by Yale University Press. He is the winner of a Carnegie fellowship and his works has been translated into Persian and Japanese.
