Summary

Here's a fantastic ghost adventure story, laced with menace and humour.

When a baby escapes a murderer intent on killing the entire family, who would have thought it would find safety and security in the local graveyard?

Brought up by the resident ghosts, ghouls and spectres, Bod has an eccentric childhood learning about life from the dead. But for Bod there is also the danger of the murderer still looking for him - after all, he is the last remaining member of the family.

A stunningly original novel deftly constructed over eight chapters, featuring every second year of Bod's life, from babyhood to adolescence. Will Bod survive to be a man?

This is a beautifully written, wonderfully read, gripping story. Kept the whole family entertained on a very long car journey.

Niel Gaiman Never Disappoints

With an enhanced sense of otherwordly and archetypical mythopoeic understanding, what reads very much like a children's book comes alive and speaks to an adult audience (like myself) in a very personal, reflective, enlightening, and humorous manner.

Excellent!

A beautiful story that kept me enthralled throughout. Very adult themes so a great read for adults and older children. The music between each chapter added greatly and it transported me away from real life and thorough absorbed me. Neil Gaiman’s voice was wonderful. 10/10!!

Light hearted, easy reading. Just pure fun.

I've not seen books by Neil Gaiman before. I tried this one because it was narrated by the author. I'll be looking out for more.

Neil Gaiman strikes again

I absolutely loved this story, and to hear it read by Neil Gaiman is always a pleasure! I'm looking forward to reading/listening to more.

The atmosphere and the characters are brilliant. The story, stunning, with funny, captivating, spooky and heartwarming writing, it's a great read/listen for anyone who likes the macabre and feels attracted to graveyards.

Lovely macabre fantastical adventurous family book!

Never before has a graveyard felt like such a warm and loving place. Even the darker, scarier moments of this book are overshadowed by the feeling of safety and ‘homeliness’ provided by the ‘otherworldly’ characters in the graveyard.
Well worth a listen by adults too … my 9yr old convinced me and I’m glad he did!
Neil Gaiman’s reading is perfect too.

Magical

Considering the target age group of this, it is actually quite a dark story! I think I may have been quite scared at parts when I was younger haha This is such a magical story though, so clever and each chapter almost acting like a short story in itself as Bod grows up and understands more about the world. A vast array of characters to get to know, and each one is narrated superbly. The production value of this audiobook is incredible and I loved the musical interludes! Overall, a wonderful story, that although more suited to a younger audience, I certainly enjoyed it as an adult.
