Summary

The extraordinary first novel by the master of storytelling.

THE EXTRAORDINARY FIRST NOVEL BY THE MASTER OF STORYTELLING

ACCLAIMED BBC RADIO 4 DRAMATISATION WITH ALL-STAR CAST INCLUDING JAMES MCAVOY, NATALIE DORMER, DAVID HAREWOOD, SOPHIE OKONEDO AND BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH

Under the streets of London lies a world most people could never dream of.

When Richard Mayhew stops to help a girl he finds bleeding in the street, his unremarkable life changes in an instant.

This act of kindness leads him to a place filled with murderers and angels, pale girls in black velvet, a Beast in a labyrinth and an Earl who holds Court in a tube train. It is strangely familiar yet utterly bizarre.

Here is London Below, the city of people who have fallen between the cracks. And for Richard Mayhew, it's just the beginning.

Great story, possibly listen on a faster speed setting.

The story and world created was fantastic, with the characters being interesting with unique voices. it felt a little slow in narration speed and in line with other audiobooks from the early 2000's.

Scirleah

Oh! What a wonderful book. I can’t describe how sad I am now it’s finished. Marvellous story and characters… especially Mr. Croop and Mr. Vandemar … don’t know if I’ve spelt them correctly. Loved their voices. Neil Gaiman is my new favourite author AND narrator… when is the next one ?

Really different (for me)

not my usual book but it was highly recommended so thought I would try it. narration was excellent but I didn't like the music as it made me jump with the drums when I was emersed in the story. story was really different and I think i would need to listen to it again to get to grips with it all but I definitely enjoyed it and will be trying the others

Outstanding

Neil Gaiman doesn't just have the amazing talent at writing an amazing story... his voice alone sucks you into his stories. His fantastic way of mixing Fact with Fiction is truly magical.

A great listen but why of why do we have the music

This was a fantastic listen. Neil Gaiman brings every word to life the only downside is the annoying musical breaks threaded through the production

Never get tired of this one

One of Gaiman's best, as I've read it at least ten times over the years, also watched the BBC TV adaptation. It could do with a remake again, as with modern production values could be an awesome film. The concept of a sub-tribe living below our feet is fascinating too.
