Charles Holborne, maverick barrister, will never fit in at the bar—too working-class, too Jewish, and too dangerous—all of which makes him the perfect outsider to prosecute a murder case which will rock British justice to its foundations.

The newspapers call her "The Lady in the Lake", but those intimately involved had a different name for the body preserved perfectly for almost a decade: they named her "The Waxwork Corpse". But she's not the only thing to be raised from the past.

The investigation also dredges up with violent mistake made by Charles in his youth which, if revealed, may see him hanged.

The Waxwork Corpse, closely based on a real Old Bailey case, is the fifth crime novel in the exciting historical series of Charles Holborne legal thrillers–gritty, hard-boiled mysteries set in 1960s London.

Based on a real case Simon Michael has created a riveting courtroom drama that grabs you from the first word and makes it impossible to tear yourself away.Interspersed but never boring is the continuing drama of Charles Holbourne’s life past and present.
Up there with John Grisham it’s difficult to know why this author is not better known.

As with every other book in the series so far, well plotted, characterisation great, pace excellent, story believable, and twist at the end, I didn't see coming at all. Thank goodness Simon Mace has returned as the narrator. Keep them coming.

Another brilliant Holborn

Great characters

Once again, Simon Michael has written a brilliant story, this time with Charles Holborn as prosecutor. There is so much believable detail in these stories that the credibility of the author’s real life experience is quite evident. These books are incredibly well written and the characterisation is spot on.
Colin Mace is the perfect narrator for these books. I just love his voices. The London accents are exact, and the others are top class. His abilities are top drawer.
