A gritty urban legal thriller you don’t want to miss! Perfect for fans of John Grisham, Robert Bailey, Michael Connelly and Robert Dugoni.

Has Charles picked the wrong side…?

London, 1969: The Kray twins, the nemeses of Charles Holborne, barrister, are finally convicted of multiple murders and sent away for the longest prison terms ever imposed by a British court. But with London in the grip of a housing crisis and unscrupulous landlords hiking rents, there are new ruthless enforcers terrorizing destitute East Enders. When a tenant dies during a violent altercation with bailiffs, Charles is instructed to represent the businessmen charged with conspiracy to murder.

There is motive, an eyewitness, and a confession–seemingly an open and shut case. But Charles suspects his clients are pawns in a much more dangerous game being played by shadowy Establishment figures. But are his instincts wrong this time? Is he being manipulated into defending a guilty man? And as dark secrets are revealed, will he have to choose between moral integrity and professional success?

DEATH, ADJOURNED is the ninth crime novel in an exciting historical series, the Charles Holborne Legal Thrillers—gritty, hard-boiled mysteries set in 1960s London.

I download and listen to a lot of crime fiction (I have 890 Audible books). Take it from me this is a masterful book. like all in the series is brilliantly read. And the story has wonderful twists and turns. Just as you think all is lost Charlie comes up with the goods. But the utter genius is how he does it! Do yourself a favour and download this absolut Diamond book!

Another fantastic read from Simon Michael. A courtroom thriller set in the late 1960's cleverly interwoven with stories based on real characters and events that give the whole book an aura of truth. The entire series is pure genius, fiction writing at it's best, and highly recommended. The narrator could not be faulted, across the series he has proved to be adept at many regional accents and only enhances the books with his performance.

It just didn’t seem as tight as the previous books. There was very little of Sally and the rest of the family. No real description of family life with a new baby. After so much in-depth details of the rest of the core characters it’s seemed strange not to hear how life had progressed. Nor was there any of the usual references to what was going on in London at the time. No street names or places - no real musical/political/sports references it was very much all in the court room and I’m afraid I found it a little lacking. However all that said this series is one of my personal favourites and I shall certainly buy the next one and look forward to any more books Mr Michael should write. Please don’t be persuaded by my review it’s still a solid 4 stars. I just gave the precious books 5!

I still enjoyed it … but

I adore these books. The characters bounce off the page and jump into your mind and become real people, so real you can practically smell them. Not only is there accuracy in the legal aspects of the books but the social commentary is an absolute delight. There are insights into living and working in the 60’s and 70’s that are much more entertaining and probably just as useful as many research papers. Enjoy!

I've read all nine books in this series. By far my favourite author at the moment. Hope he has another book on the way!

The depth of research. Fascinating likeable characters.
