The past has finally caught up with Charles....

London, 1968: The psychopathic Kray twins have ruled London’s underworld for years, aided by their government connections, bent coppers, and extreme violence. Now, finally, Superintendent “Nipper” Read’s taskforce has a chance to take them down. The catch: Read needs barrister Charles Holborne to testify against them, while the Krays have evidence against him which would end his career and send him to prison. Caught in the middle, and with his pregnant partner’s life and his career at stake, this time Holborne has no choices left.

Can Charles put his past behind him once and for all?

Will the Krays twins’ hold over London finally be put to an end?

Or will everything come crashing down for Charles Holborne….?

“Enormously entertaining. Simon Michael does a superb job conjuring the darkness of the 1960s” (William Shaw)

“[This] is a masterclass in crime writing; the characters are vivid and well-developed, the 1960s era is beautifully portrayed and the plot is sublime. It is unputdownable, unforgettable and unmissable - words than can be applied to the whole series, in fact. Very highly recommended” (The Book Magnet)

This whole series has had me gripped - the narrative has been brilliant and brought alive my early formative years in the 1960s. The narration has also been first class throughout and helped the characters grow and develop. Gutted we have come to the end and I live in hope there may well be more to come.

Amazing series with a brilliant finale

A brilliant account of the Kray firm’s downfall that strays a believable distance from history. I’m also a compulsive follower of this series and hope that there’s more to come. Great characters well acted by Colin Mace - a strongly recommended listen.

Stunning🙏

I love this series and it keeps me going when I am out running. I’m gutted this is the penultimate book. I gasped at the major twist as I was running along!

So twisty!

Yet another thoroughly enjoyable listen!
It would appear that I am hooked on these stories and cannot wait for the next! Have found it interesting how the Kraus story has been intertwined with Charles Holborne throughout the series!
The question is tho what next for him??

Wow just wow
