When a massive meteor lights up the sky over the remote island of Kerguelen, the world holds its breath. In Birchwood, Colorado, Dan McCarthy gets to work.

Following his incredible experiences of the previous year, Dan knows this was no natural occurrence. The Messengers are back - to finish what they started - and they didn't come all this way for nothing....

Not Alone: Second Contact is the long-awaited sequel to Not Alone, an Audible "Best of 2016" finalist.

A thoroughly great story. Both books in the series are well thought out with the characters well padded out. A few dodgy British accents but they don’t detract from the story in any way
I whole heartedly recommend the series.

Great Scy-fi

More a 3.5starr than a 4 but I still like it. It's more noticeable in this one and I think it's as much to do with the writing and delivery. The dialogue feels natural and is captured by the narrator who gives each character a voice and personality. But everything else feels very robotic in the writing and delivery, this can be a little a little distracting. Overall a slower story but that is to be expected when it is a middle book of a series. There was enough in her to advance the story and I am still dedicated to the series.

Not as good as the first but still worth it

I've just finished both Not Alone books by Craig A Falconer - both pulled me into the story in a subtle yet powerful way. Told in an understated way, for all its momentous happenings, I found the story compelling, believable (with some exceptions), and a fascinating take on human nature, and the "What ifs" that we have probably all asked ourselves at some point or other. Although parts were arguably overlong and might have benefited from tighter editing, on balance, this perhaps reflected the unsophisticated nature of the lead character, Dan McCarthy. The audiobook narration was equally understated but solid - all in all, a satisfying listen/read.

A good solid follow up

It’s a particularly tough book to review without giving too much away! What I will say is that it kept me on the hook from Not Alone Book 1 to this second and final instalment, ‘Contact’.

As well as the subtle ‘are they, aren’t they?’ Alien thread, the story is just a much an examination & critique of top end global politics and the nefarious role of the media.

Dan & Emma are particularly well rounded, believable and likeable characters. In fact from the down right nasty to the good guys it all feels plausible throughout.

I couldn’t stop listening. Give it a whirl, I doubt you’ll be disappointed.

Excellent, from start to finish.
