D. 27 maj 1981 omkring kl 08.40 sagde den 10-årige Thomas farvel til sin moder og lillesøster for, som sædvanlig, at gå i skole. Da han gik på Forchhammersvej på Frederiksberg ud for nr. 15, kom en bil langsomt kørende. Den standsede, og en dør blev åbnet. Thomas blev forskrækket og, begyndt at løbe, men blev indhentet af en mand, der kom fra vognen. Han greb drengen og halvt bar halvt slæbte ham hen til vognen, hvor han blev lagt på bagsædet. Bilen kørte derpå derfra med stærk fart fra stedet.
