A band of elves drives off the orcs slaughtering a travelling caravan in their forest. The only survivor is a baby elf girl. As she grows, Tolaine Starstrider finds herself at odds with her foster parents. Not being a pure blooded elf, she discovers a powerful force within her that she must learn to control or be consumed by. Tolaine is not the only one who knows about the strange magic she carries and she is captured by one who would use her power for his own ends.

Whilst Paul and Kate work alongside each other as doctor and nurse on the surgical ward, strains in their relationship emerge. And when Kate's baby dies and Paul's inexperience costs lives, doubt and despair hang in the air and their marriage appears to be doomed.

In accountancy, every debit has a credit. Kevin McAteer, twenty-three, living in London, is about to discover that real life is different. An audit investigation in Maidenhead leads him into danger, with fraud, people smugglers, murderers, and money laundering.

This saga is led by that complex character von Tabis, a psychopath, whose monumental ego, and fantasies of power and grandeur, were given fortuitous reign by his unexpected transfer to tranquil Tanganyika (Tanzania) just before World War II. His South African co-conspirators who fell under the spell of von Tabis, illustrate how his charismatic and compelling personality stimulated their latent dreams and ambitions. A colourful diversity of characters adds atmosphere and mystery that is unique to Africa.
