El protagonista de la historia es la estatua dorada de un príncipe que fue feliz, y que se encuentra en lo alto de una columna donde puede ver toda la ciudad. Cuando una golondrina se posa sobre ella y ve que el príncipe está llorando a causa de las injusticias y las miserias de su ciudad, retrasa su migración a África y le ayuda a hacer justicia.

El tenebroso protagonista vive atormentado por su deformidad y fealdad, siente una gran pasión por la música y lucha para satisfacer su pasión por la belleza. Así es como se enamora de la joven y bella vocalista Christine Daaé. Para conseguir a la joven, el Fantasma revive su pasado de inventor de trampas y mazmorras, y vuelve a ser un ser de tinieblas.

Bertie Ross has a few more deliveries to make for Sampson's store before the New Year's holiday. After a delivery at the Forbes' house, Dr. Forbes' daughters invite cold-looking Bertie in to get warm and ask why he isn't wearing mittens. Unable to bear it any longer Nanny creates a miniature holly wreath to bring to Miss Avis' grave. But shortly after she arrives, she hears footsteps approaching the grave.
