Sir Thomas More's Utopia has spurred debate, reflection, and critical thinking since its original publication in the 16th century. More's fictional island of Utopia provides an exploration of issues that shook him and his contemporaries and that continue to be problematic in the modern day.

Thomas More's Utopia stands out as one of the most striking political works ever written. Composed specifically as a response to Henry VIII's break with Rome, the book meditates on the perfect society while indirectly critiquing the political and social ills of Tudor England. Containing thoughts on religious pluralism, a welfare state, and women's rights, More's book was well ahead of its time, already hinting at later theories on communism and capitalism centuries before Marx, Engels, and Smith.

First published in 1516, Utopia is a political and philosophical satire presented as a dialogue between More and the traveller Raphael Hythlodaeus. Raphael recounts his time visiting the island of Utopia, where private property ceases to exist, all citizens work, and the laws promote equality, education and religious tolerance. Through this imagined society, More indirectly challenges the injustices of European politics, and cleverly reflects on the meaning of justice, governance and what it takes to create a ‘perfect’ society.

Utopia is a social and political satire, in the form of a traveler’s tale in an apparently blissful society based upon natural reason and justice. Sir Thomas More explores the role of philosophy—and unrealistic idealism—in government and offers a scathing analysis of the politics and...

A Modern Utopia is a 1905 novel by H. G. Wells. Because of the complexity and sophistication of its narrative structure, A Modern Utopia has been called "not so much a modern as a postmodern utopia." The novel is best known for its notion that a voluntary order of nobility known as the Samurai could effectively rule a "kinetic and not static" world state so as to solve "the problem of combining progress with political stability".

Within Utopia, the listener is taken to an island where there is an idealistic community with complete social harmony. In Utopia, the community owns all property and everyone works and contributes to society which has a balance of religious and social tolerance. Throughout history, Thomas More's Utopia has been the inspiration of many social movements. Although many of More's critics believe this type of utopia to be unachievable in human societies, his work does paint a picture of what life could be like if it were possible.

Sir Thomas More (1478-1535) was an English lawyer, social philosopher, author, statesman, and Renaissance humanist. Utopia is a work of fiction and socio-political satire. He wrote Utopia, published in 1516, about an imaginary island society and its religious, social, and political customs. While imprisoned in the Tower of London in 1534, he wrote A Dialogue of Comfort Against Tribulation. It is a fictional dialogue focusing on the comfort of God in distress, the benefits of suffering, atonement for evil acts, faintheartedness and the temptation to suicide.

Imagine a perfect society. A world with no racism, sexism, or ageism. A utopia. In Utopia 58, everyone is equal. Everyone must be equal. Too beautiful? A mask will hide that pretty face. Too tall? We'll saw your legs down to size. Too male or female? The surgeon's knife will fix that. Too smart? A buzzer in your skull will drown out all that pesky thinking. You will be equal. Like it or not. Utopia 58, built atop the ruins of North America, created perfect harmony. A society with no race, gender, or age. Pure equality. KB209 was born into this utopia.
