Arab political expert Julia Choucair on this edition of Fresh Air. She is an Associate in the Democracy and Rule of Law Project at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Her research is on political reform in the Arab world. She's the Deputy Editor of the Carnegie's e-monthly, the Arab Reform Bulletin. Walsh School of Foreign Service and director of Georgetown's Security Studies Program and Center for Peace and Security Studies.

Political reporter Thomas Ricks on this edition of Fresh Air. His new book is Fiasco: The American Military Adventure in Iraq. Ricks, a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, takes a hard look at the American military invasion and occupation of Iraq. Ricks has insider's access to top military officials who voice their dismay and frustration with the war, and he combines their opinions with his own observations reporting in the field.

Richard Linklater's new film, A Scanner Darkly, is based on the book by Philip K. Dick. It's about drug addiction, paranoia, and surveillance. It stars Robert Downey Jr. and Keanu Reeves. Linklater is a self-taught director whose other films include Slacker, Dazed & Confused, and The School of Rock.

Philanthropist and investor George Soros and philanthropist William Schambra on this edition of Fresh Air. Soros is the chairman of Soros Fund Management and the Open Society Institute. His new book is The Age of Fallibility: Consequences of The War on Terror.

Writers Jed Horne and Edmund White on this edition of Fresh Air. Jed Horne is metro editor of the New Orleans Times-Picayune. His new book Breach of Faith: Hurricane Katrina and the Near Death of a Great American City. Edmund White has been writing about gay culture in fiction and nonfiction since the 1970s. He has a new autobiography, My Lives. He is the author of over 17 books including a trilogy of autobiographical novels.

Middle East expert Vali Nasr and writer Jeffrey Goldberg on this edition of Fresh Air. His new book is The Shia Revival: How Conflicts Within Islam Will Shape the Future. Nasr is the Senior Adjunct Fellow on the Middle East at the Council on foreign Relations. He is also professor of Middle East and south Asia Politics and associate Chair of research at the Department of National Security at the Naval Postgraduate School.

Political reporters Tom Hamburger and Peter Wallsten and Washington Post senior Pentagon correspondent Thomas Ricks on this edition of Fresh Air. Hamburger and Wallsten are the authors of the new book One Party Country: The Republican Plan for Dominance in the 21st Century (John Wiley).
