Invisible No More is a collection of stories by Native American leaders, many of them women, who are leading the way through cultural grounding and nation-building in the areas of community, environmental justice, and economic justice. Authors in the collection come from over a dozen Native nations. While telling their stories, authors excavate the history and ongoing effects of genocide and colonialism. At the same time, the authors detail ways that listeners might imagine the world differently, presenting stories of Native community building that offer benefits for all.

It is time for individuals, communities, and healthcare institutions to take action and prioritize the voices and needs of black women in healthcare. By amplifying their voices, promoting diversity in clinical trials, advocating for policy changes, and empowering black women through education, we can work towards a more equitable and inclusive healthcare system.

The Invisible Black Nurse emerged from research grounded in historical reviews and contemporary perspectives that describe the experiences of Black nurses as their various roles as clinicians, educators, administrators and researchers. Recurring themes include feeling invisible, feeling devalued and being held to a higher standards than their peers in their professional role. She has presented her research at various professional nursing conferences and the Association of Psychiatric Nursing.

As a Black woman, managing chronic illness and disabilities can present unique challenges that may not be fully understood or addressed in the healthcare system. The intersection of race and gender in healthcare for Black women often leads to disparities in access to quality care, leading to negative health outcomes. Black women face stereotypes and biases in healthcare that can impact the way their symptoms are perceived and treated. These biases can lead to misdiagnoses, delayed treatment, and overall poor healthcare experiences.

For too long, the narratives surrounding Black communities in America have been dominated by deficit-based thinking, focusing on perceived weaknesses rather than the inherent strengths and resilience that have been fostered through generations of hardship. This book seeks to challenge that paradigm, offering a critical but constructive analysis of the socio-political and economic realities confronting Black Americans.
