Throughout Teller County, history lovers can find abandoned towns and forgotten main streets that once bustled with life and commerce. Even before Teller was carved from surrounding counties, the scenic mountains and lucrative mines of the gold rush era brought thousands of settlers and attracted resort owners and tycoons eager to exploit the rich setting. Seemingly overnight, towns in the Cripple Creek District and other places popped up, flush with gold and people looking for opportunity. One of the oldest cities in Texas, Galveston has witnessed more than its share of tragedies. Devastating hurricanes, yellow fever epidemics, fires, a major Civil War battle, and more cast a dark shroud on the city's legacy. I have wondered at the many ways life turns me inside and out, every day of my life. I do my best to see life with depth and breath. A broader lens of what I see day to day. With practice and intent, I try to find the uncommon in everyday life. Simply living my daily experiences can in itself become a form of art. For the most part, this book has come together aroused by thoughts and feelings from my everyday life. Some are deeper, more insightful. Others are lighter and more playful. Some are haunting, with vivid memories that follow me through my life.
