The year is 1901, and Ada Byrd―spinster, schoolmarm, amateur naturalist―accepts a teaching post in isolated Lowry Bridge, grateful for the chance to re-establish herself where no one knows her secrets. She develops friendships with her neighbors, explores the woods with her students, and begins to see a future in this tiny farming community. Her past―riddled with grief and shame―has never seemed so far away. But then Ada begins to witness strange and grisly phenomena: a swarm of dying crickets, a self-mutilating rabbit, a malformed faun.

Ten years ago, UN Interpreter Chelsea Mason was asked by her bosses to go in and document the illegal timber trade. She thought it would be an easy in and out job. The group of rebels had a different idea when they captured her for ransom. Her friend Jordan James comes to her rescue and they escape to the famed lifestyle club, Baker Street. Adam Wheldon, Chief of Security at the club, is there to provide security and care for Chelsea.

Six outlaws, barely a day ahead of their pursuers, find shelter in a freshly deserted New Mexico town. With no water, and one of them gravely wounded, they realize too late they're trapped inside the lifeless town. As they soon discover the grisly truth behind the disappearance of the townsfolk, the outlaws find themselves hunted by something far worse than anything they've faced yet - an unspeakable evil that seemingly cannot be killed.
