Spectral demons tear victims apart from the inside out, leaving nothing but gory destruction in their wake. And their next victim is one of the biggest extradimensional crime lords around—the One Guy. To survive a fate equal to but also worse than death, he’ll have to convince Black Box Inc. to save his sorry ass. Chase Lawter and his crack team—an omnisexual yeti, an ex-Fae assassin, and a business savvy zombie—are tasked with transporting the One Guy to Washington, D. C. where the Department of Extradimensional Affairs will put the crime lord into protective custody. That is, if Chase and Black Box Inc. can evade blood ghasts, dimentionalist rednecks, vengeance-seeking kobolds, and whatever other enemies are in hot pursuit of the One Guy. He’s made a lot of enemies. Including Chase, who knows you can’t trust the One Guy as far as you can throw him.

Need to hide something from the fae? Got a tricky trans-dimensional delivery to make? Need a big ball of magic that can destroy the world? Call Black Box, Inc. The world as we know it is gone. Since the "extradimensional happening", every creature, monster, and fairy tale goblin has turned Asheville, North Carolina, into their personal playground. An uneasy truce exists between the races, but Chase’s unique ability puts him squarely in the crosshairs of treachery, feuds, and monsters.

You're in luck, Alfred," he declared. "That's the most interesting man in New York - one of the most interesting in the world. That's Sanford Quest." "Who's he?" "You haven't heard of Sanford Quest?" "Never in my life." The young man whose privilege it was to have been born and lived all his days in New York, drank half a glassful of wine and leaned back in his chair. Words, for a few moments, were an impossibility. "Sanford Quest," he pronounced at last, "is the greatest master in criminology the world has ever known. He is a magician, a scientist, the Pierpont Morgan of his profession."

My name is Cisco Suarez, but I've been called a lot of things. Wizard, hit man, black magic outlaw. I guess one day I finally went too far because someone left me for dead in a dumpster. That should've been it for me. End of story. But I'm not like most people. Compelled by equal doses of voodoo and sheer grit, I came back...and I want answers. Which might explain the zombie pit bull sniffing after me. And the automatic weapons. But I'm too stubbon to back down. I'll go through a voodoo gang, a shape-shifting trickster, and a bloodthirsty vampire if it gets me out of this.

Shoeless Joe Jackson made a mistake and was banned from baseball for life. Sometimes, in the Garden Lounge, the special jukebox lets a customer go back in time to a mistake and fix it. Shoeless Joe never had a chance to let the jukebox help him fix his mistake, but instead it allowed Shoeless Joe to do something even more important: Help a child become a better adult. Black Betsy first appeared in the anthology Alternate Outlaws from TOR Books edited by Mike Resnick.
