Nel 158 l'autore fu processato per magia,e nel suo discorso difensivo egli non citò quest'opera , che pure tratta di magia, di qui si deduce che l'opera sia successiva a quella data. Il libro è costituito da un soggetto principale, Lucio, e della sua metamorfosi in un asino a seguito di un esperimento non andato a buon fine.

Sie ruft ihren Sohn Amor und befiehlt ihm, Psyche dazu zu bringen, sich in einen schlechten Mann zu verlieben. Dieser hat sich allerdings selbst in die Schönheit verliebt und lässt Psyche in ein märchenhaftes Schloss bringen.
