Anna Cameron is disheartened. With her usually peaceful world under attack, the 14-year-old is anxious about fighting against invisible enemies. When an African chief takes his place as a new Quentin Academy professor, bringing with him a new science, she hopes all is not lost.

Anna Shepherd is a straight-A student with a lot going on under the surface: She’s struggling with her mom’s death, total friend drama, and the fallout from wasting her time on a very attractive boy. She’s looking forward to skipping town after graduation - but then a zombie apocalypse majorly disrupts the holidays season. It’s going to be very hard to graduate high school without a brain. To save the day, Anna, her friends, and her frenemies will have to journey straight to the heart of one of the most dangerous places ever known: high school.

As much as Anna would like to live in harmony, a new danger looms in her second year at the Quentin Academy. Lorenzo, Anna's new classmate and friend, recently arrived from Italy with his grandmother. But, Lorenzo's older twin brothers are also studying at the academy, and something about their strange behavior puts Anna on alert. Soon, the inexplicable death of a harmless creature destroys the balance in Anna's peaceful world.

A mysterious treasure awaits. Finding it will mean trusting a ghost - and her own instincts. Exploring scenic trails in rundown little towns is Marie and her brother’s favorite tradition. One little town in particular carries a rumor of a hidden treasure and a ghost who speaks only to children. Marie brushes the absurd story off, until she hears the voice herself. “Do you want to go on a treasure hunt?” Unwilling to be ignored, the ghost continues to appear to Marie. The 15-year-old explorer is torn between the allure of an unknown adventure and the safety of the familiar.
