Nephi puts us on notice in his very first sentence that The Book of Mormon was written by temple worshippers and for temple worshippers. He and the other prophets of The Book of Mormon, who called themselves the visionary men and the peaceable followers of Christ, knew and practiced a mystery, an ordinance by which they ascended through the temple and entered into the presence of God. This ordinance was embodied in a dramatic representation of the expulsion of Adam and Eve from Eden and their return to it, in which initiates played the roles of Adam and Eve or their descendants.

This first volume of the Torah for Nations series is a detailed and intimate presentation of the story of Adam and Eve. While remaining true to the literal text of the Bible, it enhances the Biblical narrative by expanding the conversations between G-d, Adam, Eve, and the serpent. These enhanced conversations, while imaginative, remain true to ancient Jewish interpretation and weave a comprehensive understanding of traditional Jewish philosophy and theology within the story line.

An intriguing supplement to the 'Book of Genesis', The First and Second Books of Adam and Eve remains an ancient text of great interest to modern readers. We are given intriguing insights into what life was like in the almost 1,600 years leading up to the biblical Great Flood of Noah, and how evil came to dominate the whole Earth due to Satan and the cursed Fallen Angels, who still seek to tempt, corrupt and destroy the world today.

Originally published in German in 1862 and then translated in 1912 by philosopher and rabbi Meyer Waxman, PhD, this work is considered to be one of the first, if not the first modern proposal for a Jewish homeland in Judea. Written in the form of 12 informal letters to a bereaved lady, the book summarizes arguments pro and against the proposal using quotes and anecdotes involving prominent European social leaders of the time, accompanied by brilliant insights into human nature.

Christ asked how people can believe Him if they don't believe Moses (John 5:46-47). The culture is hardened against Christ because we delay in teaching the law. Let's allow the laws of Moses to hammer our hearts to soften them for Christ. Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!
