Opera is an art form that tells a story through singing, music, dancing and acting. It began in 1597 when an Italian artist, Jacopo Peri, tried to reproduce the ancient Greek dramas. The Beggar's Opera is a ballad opera written in 1728 by John Gay with music arranged by Johann Christoph Pepusch.
