  • Don't Fail Your Electrician Exam! Mock Test Guide
    Oct 6 2026

Test your knowledge with this electrician exam question set. I am walking through real-world scenarios to sharpen your diagnostic skills.Getting ready for your assessments means understanding how to approach complex electrical systems. Whether you are dealing with domestic, commercial, or industrial properties, being able to perform accurate fault diagnosis is a core competency every sparky needs to master. We look at specific technical challenges, including the correct procedures for safe isolation and how to interpret Zs measurement results. These practice questions are designed to help you identify common issues quickly so you can resolve them confidently on site. Proper electrical testing is the foundation of a safe installation, and these mock scenarios will help you prepare for the real thing.Subscribe for more electrician exam questions, apprentice revision, and real-world sparky knowledge.0:00 Setting the Stage for Fault Diagnosis0:47 Environmental Factors in Electrical Faults2:15 Analyzing Discrepancies in Loop Impedance4:22 The Importance of Documenting Test Results5:55 Mastering the Sequence of Dead Testing11:03 Diagnosing Persistent Circuit Breaker Trips17:22 Handling Intermittent Faults That Clear40:03 Safety Procedures for Near-Live WorkHow good is your electrical fault finding? ⚡After more than 20 years working as an electrician, I decided to sit a full fault diagnosis mock exam and see how much I actually know. This one covers 60 questions, 90 minutes, with a 60% pass mark.I ended up with…78% ✅So apparently when someone rings me with an electrical fault, I’ve got about a 78% chance of figuring it out. 😂In this video I work through fault diagnosis questions covering:✅ Electrical fault finding✅ Zs and Ze readings✅ R1+R2 testing✅ High resistance faults✅ Ring final circuit faults✅ Insulation resistance testing✅ RCD faults and nuisance tripping✅ Neutral-to-earth faults✅ Safe isolation✅ Proving dead✅ Faulty circuit breakers✅ Three-phase faults✅ Phase rotation✅ Open neutral faults✅ PME / TN-C-S supplies✅ Earth fault loop impedance✅ Earth leakage testing✅ Clamp meters✅ Continuity testing✅ High resistance connections✅ Reverse polarity✅ Outdoor lighting faults✅ Moisture ingress✅ Arcing faults✅ Motor faults✅ Fault finding documentation✅ Intermittent electrical faults✅ Electrical testing instruments✅ Apprentice electrician revisionWhat I like about fault finding is that you can apply the questions to things you actually see on site. For example:If a circuit breaker immediately trips again after you reset it with no load connected, there’s probably still a persistent fault somewhere on that circuit. If outdoor lighting works intermittently, moisture ingress or corroded connections should definitely be somewhere on your list of things to investigate. If you’ve got a high resistance connection, you might start finding localised heating and discolouration, especially as the load increases. And if a customer says:“It trips sometimes…”That’s when the fun really begins. 😂One of the biggest parts of good fault diagnosis is working logically.Test.Record the reading.Use that result to decide what you test next. That is basically how I approach fault finding on site. There are also plenty of questions in this exam that made me stop and think — especially when we get into three-phase systems, VFDs, PME faults and some of the more technical testing questions. So if you’re training to become an electrician, studying City & Guilds, preparing for fault diagnosis assessments or you simply want to test your knowledge, play along and see if you can beat my 78%.⚠️ This video shows me working through a mock exam and thinking aloud. Always use current BS 7671, manufacturer guidance, HSE guidance and your course material when carrying out electrical work or preparing for an assessment.

  • Can a 20-Year Pro Pass a Level 3 Electrical Exam? ⚡
    Sep 28 2026

Can a qualified electrician with over 20 years on the tools still pass a Level 3 Electrical Science and Principles mock exam? ⚡Tool Box Talk Products to help aspiring sparks - https://toolboxtalkforelectricians.kit.com/productsThis is the one I was not looking forward to.After passing and failing a few of the other mock exams, I went back onto the Electmate app to take on Level 3 Paper 3: Electrical Science and Principles. And this one was full of calculations. In this video I cover:✅ Level 3 electrical science exam✅ Electrical principles mock exam✅ Ohm’s law questions✅ Resistors in series and parallel✅ Three-phase calculations✅ Transformer current questions✅ Power factor correction✅ Reactive power✅ Capacitive reactance✅ Inductive reactance✅ Motors and slip✅ DOL starters✅ CT clamps✅ Voltage drop✅ Lighting design and lux calculations✅ RMS and peak voltage✅ Energy, power and time✅ Electrical theory vs real-world site work✅ Electrician exam revision✅ Real electrician taking exams againSome of the questions I could work out from site experience. Some of them came back from the depths of my brain. And some of them… I had absolutely no chance without revision and formulas in front of me. 😂This exam shows the difference between being able to do the job in the real world and remembering the theory needed to pass electrical science papers.I’ve tested resistance loads for years. But have I sat there calculating capacitive reactance, transformer primary current or lighting lux levels on a normal domestic job?Not really. So, did I pass? No.Complete fail. But it was interesting to see what’s expected at Level 3 and what apprentices are having to learn now.Would you have passed this one?Drop your score in the comments.📌 Subscribe for more electrician exam videos, apprentice training, electrical theory, Level 3 revision and real-world sparky content.🎧 Listen to Toolbox Talks for Electricians for more ways to reduce stress, gain back time and earn more money.

  • Level 3 Electrician Exam: Did I Pass or Fail?
    Sep 21 2026

Can a qualified electrician with over 20 years on the tools pass a Level 3 Environmental Technology Systems mock exam? ⚡In this video, I take on another electrical exam — but this one is very different from the usual wiring, testing and health and safety questions. This paper covers modern electrical systems, renewable technology, energy efficiency, smart controls, solar PV, EV charging, heat pumps, battery storage and building automation. And I’ll be honest… this one was tough. In this video I cover:✅ Level 3 electrical mock exam✅ Environmental Technology Systems✅ KNX building automation✅ Retrofit in buildings✅ Smart Export Guarantee✅ Building integrated photovoltaics✅ Solar PV systems✅ Solar inverters✅ EV charging requirements✅ Type A and Type B RCD questions✅ Air source heat pumps✅ Heat pump defrost cycles✅ Battery storage✅ Peak shaving✅ Smart charging✅ IoT sensors✅ Power over Ethernet✅ Z-Wave smart home systems✅ Building automation✅ EPCs and energy labels✅ Part L questions✅ SAP and SBEM✅ Net zero targets✅ Waste hierarchy✅ Circular economy✅ MCS solar PV requirements✅ Real electrician vs modern exam questionsThis exam shows how much the electrical industry is changing.Years ago, being an electrician was mainly about wiring houses, consumer units, sockets, lights, testing and fault finding. Now, electricians are expected to understand solar, batteries, EV chargers, heat pumps, smart homes, energy performance, carbon targets, environmental rules and building automation systems. Some of it makes sense. Some of it feels like it belongs on a solar course, EV course or environmental technology course rather than a general electrician exam. But this is where the industry is heading.I was close… but this one got me.Would you have passed it?Drop your score in the comments.📌 Subscribe for more electrician exam videos, apprentice training, Level 3 electrical revision, electrical theory, solar PV, EV chargers, heat pumps and real-world sparky content.🎧 Listen to Toolbox Talks for Electricians for more ways to reduce stress, gain back time and earn more money.
