Henna Hundal, a researcher at Stanford School of Medicine discusses the consequences of this decision. When Trump withdrew near the end of his first term, Biden immediately rejoined. The unknown next president will not be in office for 3 years and their inclinations are uncertain. From JAPAN- Japan, like the US, is currently experiencing extreme snow and cold weather. Sales of new electric vehicles in the EU are rising rapidly. Trump threatened a 100% tariff on Canada if it makes a trade deal with China. This week's show begins with press reviews on the World Economic Forum, Greenland, and Donald Trump, the Board Of Peace, attitudes in Venezuela, and Gen-Z voters in Nepal. (29:00)

This week's show features stories from France 24, Radio Deutsche-Welle, Radio Havana Cuba, and NHK Japan. http://youthspeaksout.net/swr260123.mp3 (29:00) From FRANCE- Starting with 3 press reviews about the WEF held in Davos Switzerland, clearly the biggest international news item. Trump's words, insults, and threats, followed by his slight retraction on Greenland, has clearly damaged the relationship between the US and Europe. Trump was ridiculed in much of the press, not unlike his ridicule of other world leaders. Press on the Israeli crackdown on the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, including bulldozing the UN buildings in occupied Palestine. Oxfam released its annual report on wealth and poverty on Monday, pointing out that billionaires are accelerating the inequality gap. From GERMANY- Trump presented his proposed Board of Peace in Davos. It was to be a way to fix the crisis in destroyed Gaza, but has become what many suggest is an attempt at replacing the United Nations. He invited dozens of countries to sit on the board, which he is the lifetime chairman of the board, and Europe is by and large repulsed by it. An interview with Heba Aly, journalist and director of the United Nations Reform Coalition. She has worked for years to redirect the UN into becoming more effective at achieving its goals. From CUBA- Venezuelans continue to denounce the US invasion and kidnapping of President Maduro and his wife. From JAPAN- At the beginning of the week the EU was considering putting over $100 billion in tariffs on the US in response to tariffs Trump threatened on EU countries defending Greenland. A just restarted nuclear power plant in central Japan was shutdown due to a malfunction during start up. Nepal will have a general election in March, and young voters in Gen-Z intend to create candidates and change, focused on ending corruption. It is a very dangerous and slippery slope that we are on and I just think it is time that we take a step back and actually fund the journalists that we want to see." --Abby Martin Dan Roberts Shortwave Report- www.outfarpress.com YouthSpeaksOut!- www.youthspeaksout.net

This week's show features stories from Radio Deutsche-Welle, France 24, NHK Japan, and Radio Havana Cuba, http://youthspeaksout.net/swr260116.mp3 (29:00) From GERMANY- The large protests in Iran are discussed in an interview with Fawas Gerges a professor of international relations at the London School of Economics. He talks about what is driving the protestors. He says the economy has been ruined by severe sanctions from the US and Europe, turning Iran into a state of paupers. From FRANCE- First, how the Greenland press responded to the meeting between JD Vance and the foreign ministers of Greenland and Denmark. Mainly in response to Trump threats of seizing Greenland by military force, many members of NATO are deploying their troops to the island. The foreign ministers were keen to not escalate the situation but did not appear to think that their meeting would change Trump's mind. From JAPAN- Japanese researchers are off on a mission attempting to mine rare earth minerals from mud on the deep sea floor, which is extremely dangerous to ocean life. Chinas export earnings have not been hurt by Trumps tariffs. There has been a dangerous escalation in the war on Ukraine following the failed drone attack on Putins residence. From CUBA- President Maduro sent out his first message through his son, after being kidnapped and held in a US prison. UN Secretary-General Guterres warned Netanyahu that he could take Israel to the International Court of Justice for actions against UNRWA , the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine.
