Show Notes for Ep: #212: Joliet Star Wars Day

The first Saturday in June turns the city of Joliet into a Galaxy far, far away as Star Wars Day returns, organized by the Joliet Public Library in partnership with the Joliet Museum, and the city of Joliet. Scores of volunteers help make this a terrific event for the whole family. The event kicks off with a parade of some of the best cosplay you’ll see in one place down Chicago street that turns at Clinton and ends up in front of the library, where an annual group photo is taken. Afterwards, both the library and Museum host authors, artists, makers, vendors and groups that certainly fill up the 11-3 time quite well. Outside on the streets, some of which are closed off, even more things to do, explore and eat under the Star Wars theme.

This year JSDW returned to the library, as construction on the streets had finished. Last year saw it temporarily moved to Slammer’s Stadium a few blocks away.

Also greeting visitors was a brand new City Square across from the library and the famous Rialto Theater which gives the whole downtown a wonderful place to gather and hold outdoor programs.

A special in-person episode of The Breakfast Pack, recorded in person in downtown Boston. Greg Cass, Ben Brophy and I met up in a cold and rainy day in downton Beantown and recorded our thoughts at the Green Dragon Tavern and later inside AMC in Boston.

In part one, we pick up where we left off last episode, talking about expectations and what we were looking for in subsequent viewings and part two was after Greg and I watched the movie together at the AMC right next to the TD Garden in downtown Boston. Well Mando is in theaters over this Memorial Day weekend, and people are with tickets and swag in had are hitting theaters across the globe. While some have not yet seen it, instead of drilling right into spoilerly or non-spoiler reviews, I wanted to dig into some nuts and bolts on the experience and what some did when they got there.

With me on the program again is Daz Davies who saw Mando in Wales twice already, as well as Ro Gazga and Brad Tracy of the Scarif Scuttlebutt Podcast who met up for some pizza after they did a weekend YouTube live stream talking about the film with each other and their audience.

Full review shows are ahead on the Breakfast Pack, but it IS a holiday weekend, so let’s keep things light and easy as we relax and enjoy STAR WARS back in theaters…before we head back into work.
