• Neighbourhood Health: Prevention in Action
    Apr 21 2026

🎙️ In this episode, we explore what neighbourhood health looks like in action, through a live example from Nottingham City Place-Based Partnership. We’re joined by Michelle, Phillip and Jez to talk through a collaborative project bringing digital health checks directly into community settings using the SISU Health Station.

We discuss the local need driving the work, how the project was supported through Health Innovation East Midlands Grow Digital Innovation Programme, and how partners came together to deliver something practical, visible and impactful. The conversation also explores how the technology works, how it’s engaging people in more deprived communities, and how it’s linking individuals into wider support services.

Most importantly, we look at the early signs of success, from increased patient awareness to behaviour change and growing ownership of health. A great example of prevention, partnership working and digital innovation coming together to support neighbourhood health.

  • Social Media That Works: Smarter Communication with AI & Social Media
    Apr 14 2026

In this episode of The Halfway Point, we are joined by Richard Stoddart from Redmoor Health to explore how GP practices can move beyond simply being present on social media to using it as a meaningful tool for patient engagement. With increasing demand on Primary Care and a growing expectation for clear, accessible communication, social media is more important than ever. However, many practices still feel unsure about how to use it effectively or worry that it will create more work rather than reduce pressure.

We talk through what good social media actually looks like in General Practice, and why it should be seen as part of a wider communication strategy rather than a standalone task. The conversation highlights common pitfalls, such as inconsistent posting or unclear messaging, and focuses on how small, practical changes can make a real difference.

A key part of the discussion focuses on the role of AI in supporting communication, including Redmoor Health’s avatar technology. We explore how these tools can help practices deliver consistent, easy to understand messages, particularly when explaining complex information to patients. Used in the right way, this kind of technology can improve accessibility, reduce repetitive enquiries and support practice teams without replacing the human element of care.

Overall, this episode is about working smarter, not harder. It is a practical look at how better communication, supported by the right tools, can improve both patient experience and day to day operations within your practice. When used well, social media can help reduce confusion, manage expectations and ultimately ease demand on the practice.

  • The Virtual Receptionist: What It Is, What It Is Not, & How to Get It Right
    Apr 7 2026

Phones ringing off the hook, queues building from 8am, and teams doing their best to keep up. Sound familiar? In this episode, we explore how virtual receptionist technology is starting to ease that pressure, supporting practice teams to manage demand more effectively without losing the human touch.

We are joined by Dave Mills, Head of Health & Care at Think Healthcare, who brings decades of experience in healthcare tech and a refreshingly practical perspective on AI telephony systems within primary care.

We unpack what a virtual receptionist actually is in simple terms, cutting through the jargon to explain how these systems work in real practice settings. We also explore why this technology is gaining momentum now, despite having been around for decades, and what has changed to make it more relevant than ever.

We discuss the importance of governance and how NHS England guidance plays a critical role in ensuring these systems are implemented safely and appropriately within our GP Surgeries.

We also dive into the practical side for practice managers, particularly how call data from these systems can be used to gain valuable insights, improve workflows, and enhance patient access.

With demand rising and teams under increasing pressure, practices are being pushed to rethink how they manage access. This episode offers a grounded, real-world perspective on whether AI reception tools are just hype or a genuinely useful solution.

  • Patient Monitoring: Smarter, Not Harder
    Apr 1 2026

In this episode, Ben is joined by Mark Widgery from MedLink to explore how smart technology is transforming patient monitoring and recall processes in general practice.

In this episode, we dive into the growing pressures facing practices managing long-term conditions, and why traditional manual searches are quickly becoming a major bottleneck. The conversation unpacks how automation can streamline workflows, reduce administrative burden, and give valuable time back to practices.

You’ll hear about the power of “fire-and-forget” systems that keep processes running in the background, while still giving practices full control. The episode also explores how integrated online reviews can empower patients, improve engagement, and enhance the overall patient journey.

Key topics include digital monitoring for medications such as methotrexate and levothyroxine, as well as managing multimorbidity through personalised, automated questionnaires. Mark also shares insights into upcoming innovations, including the ability to pull forward blood tests to reduce unnecessary patient visits.

To round things off, you’ll get practical tips on how to implement these digital solutions smoothly within your own practice.

If you're looking to save time, improve patient engagement, and modernise your recall systems, this episode is packed with ideas you can start using straight away.

  • Neighbourhood Working: The Next Step for Primary Care
    Mar 25 2026

In this episode of The Halfway Point, we are joined by James Bowman, Director at Locum Practice Manager, to break down the NHS Neighbourhood framework and what it really means for GP practices and Primary Care leaders.

There is a lot of noise around “Neighbourhoods” at the moment, but what does it actually look like in practice. Is this just another layer on top of PCNs, or a genuine shift in how care is delivered?

In this conversation, we take a step back and explain the concept in plain English. We explore why the NHS is moving towards neighbourhood working, how it builds on existing structures, and what changes Practice Managers may start to see on the ground.

We also talk honestly about the opportunities and challenges. From more integrated, patient centred care and shared resources, through to the realities of governance, accountability and change fatigue.

Most importantly, we focus on what this means for you as a Practice Manager or Primary Care leader. Where should you be focusing your time, how can you prepare without feeling overwhelmed, and what mindset shift is needed to work more collaboratively across systems.

If you have heard the term “Neighbourhoods” and are not quite sure what it means for your practice, this episode will give you clarity and confidence.

Hope you have a good week, and we will see you next time at The Halfway Point.

  • PM Away Weekend: Why Practice Managers Need Space Too
    Mar 18 2026

Sometimes the best thing a Practice Manager can do for their practice is step away from it… if only for a weekend!

In this special episode of The Halfway Point, Ben is joined in person by Practice Manager Jennie Dock, whilst attending a PM Away Weekend. Alongside fellow PMs, we spent a weekend together, creating space to connect, reflect and recharge away from the day-to-day pressures of Primary Care.

In this episode, we explore how the idea started, how the weekend was structured, and why bringing Practice Managers together in this way can have such a powerful impact. We also discuss how listeners could organise something similar in their own area, sharing practical tips for making it happen.

If you have ever felt that leadership in General Practice can be isolating, this conversation is a reminder that support and community really matter.

This weekend was kindly sponsored by Dene Healthcare (https://denehc.co.uk), whose support helped make the event possible.

If you would like to have a PM Away Weekend in your area, please reach out to us at Locum PM or Jennie Dock directly, and we will help make this happen.

  • SEA: What We Really Mean by Significant Event Analysis
    Mar 11 2026

In this episode of The Halfway Point, we take a closer look at something every GP practice talks about but not everyone feels confident about. Significant Event Analysis, or SEA. Joined by Jermaine and Tom from MyPracticeManager, Ben explores what we really mean when we say we are “doing an SEA” and why the process is far more valuable than simply completing a form for governance purposes.

The conversation explores some of the common challenges practices face, from overly complex templates and defensive documentation to staff feeling nervous about speaking openly. We also discuss how the tone set by leadership can make a huge difference in creating an environment where teams feel safe to reflect honestly on what happened and how systems can be improved.

The episode also focuses on what good SEA looks like in practice. From structuring discussions effectively and documenting events clearly, to identifying system issues rather than individual fault, the conversation highlights practical ways practices can make the process meaningful. They also discuss how SEA can help identify patterns, strengthen governance and ultimately support safer, more resilient services for patients.

Whether you are new to Significant Event Analysis or looking to refresh how your practice approaches it, this episode offers a practical and reassuring look at how SEA can become a positive and constructive part of your practice culture.

    Mar 4 2026

CQC inspection does not have to mean sleepless nights and last-minute folder reshuffles.

In this episode of The Halfway Point, Ben is joined by Kiran Johnson from DKJ to talk about preparing for CQC the calm way. Together, they explore why inspections still trigger anxiety across NHS Primary Care, what inspectors are actually looking for, and how to build simple, year-round systems that reduce stress and increase confidence.

This is a practical, honest conversation about governance, leadership tone and avoiding the last-minute scramble when the notification email lands. If you want inspection readiness to feel structured rather than stressful, this episode is for you.

(apologies for the abrupt end to this session, we had some technical difficulties when recording it, but we will get DKJ back for a part two soon!)
